Abstract

Halide perovskites are considered as one of the most promising material systems for photovoltaic absorbers. With the steep rise in interest, a vast number of compounds that are only vaguely related are being subsumed as perovskite semiconductors. The aim of this chapter is to give an overview of the different classes of materials that belong to the halide semiconductors and to give a structural-systematic view of the halide perovskite family and its structural variations. The latter is realized in the form of a Bärnighausen tree alongside and seconded by considerations as to why this classification is important for halide perovskite materials.
