Abstract

Examining anew the subject of values in Nietzsche’s philosophy, Orsucci explicates Feuerbachian concepts in Nietzsche’s texts. Specifically, Feuerbach’s use of terms such as ‚Werthe‘ and ‚Werthschätzungen‘ influenced Nietzsche’s historical and comparative method of critiquing morality and religion. Dühring further developed Feuerbach’s position to assert that abstract thought and imagination arise from the ‚Werthschätzungen‘ of drives and affects to transfigure the ‚life‘ of a people. Orsucci demonstrates that Feuerbach, Dühring and Nietzsche belong to the same notional tradition - concepts informing Nietzsche’s critique of values and related assessments of culture and decadence.
