"Das Buch Linienwissen und Liniendenken lebt geradezu von solchen Differenzen der Wissensbestände und der Denkweisen, in deren Zentrum die Linie (hier verstanden als Gattungsbezeichnung) steht. In Anlehnung an die von Ferdinand de Saussure entwickelte Sprachtheorie könnte man sagen, dass die verschiedenen Bedeutungen des Linienwissens jeweils erst aus deren Differenzen bestimmbar sind, die dieses Wissen in verschiedensten Bereichen über Jahrhunderte erfahren hat. Der Band ist klug und der Rezeption förderlich eingerichtet."
