15 Die Liturgie als Rahmenbedingung rhetorischen Handelns

Abstract

This contribution starts with elaborating the significance of rhetoric as a homiletical and liturgical perspective of reflection. Thus, liturgy is not only addressed as a general condition for rhetorical action within the sermon but considered in itself as communicative action in rhetorical perspective, for the service as a whole aims at persuasion. Its intentionality is not in tension with an understanding of the service as a performative communication of religious intention (Friedrich Schleiermacher). It rather points to the sermon’s binding structure which includes the preacher, the audience and what is said. This interconnectedness is exemplified by the use of Scripture in the liturgical readings on the one hand and the interpretation of the text within the sermon on the other to finally outline the relationship between the homiletical and liturgical situation.
