The articles by philosophers, philologists, and editorial scholars in this volume examine whether the “aestheticization of thinking” achieved in the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche and Theodor W. Adorno should be regarded as a key characteristic of philosophical argumentation. The aim is a reevaluation of philosophical reading and the development of a philological method that assesses each text in terms of its particular nature and materiality.

"Der Band, in dem Adorno letztlich ein Übergewicht hat, bietet ausführliche Erörterungen zu der nach Auffassung der Herausgeber „zunehmend marginalisierten Frage nach der Bedeutung der Textualität der Philosophie“, so daß die Aufsätze verstanden werden können als „Vorschläge für eine Revision und Neubestimmung philosophischer Lektürepraxis“. [...] Man darf jedenfalls konstatieren, daß der Band auf gelungene Weise zeigt, daß es sinnvoll ist, sich auf Nietzsches Lesenorm, es gelte „langsam, tief, rück- und vorsichtig, mit Hintergedanken, mit offen gelassenen Thüren, mit zarten Fingern und Augen [zu] lesen“, einzulassen (S. 1)."
