This book marks the first-ever collection of papers in English on the acquisition of Japanese as a second language. Its overarching goal is to broaden and deepen the field of SLA research by focusing on Japanese rather than on more commonly studied European languages. Despite that fact that Japanese is one of the most extensively studied non-European languages in American universities, there are few books written in English that directly address key issues of acquisition of Japanese as a second language. Kannno’s book is the one that the field has been waiting for.
