THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY’S HIGHEST OFFICIAL DESIGN AWARD

Der Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ist die zentrale Maßnahme der Designförderung des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Technologie. Er wird vom Rat für Formgebung organisiert und prämiert Produkte von besonders herausragender Gestaltungsqualität. Voraussetzung für die Nominierung ist, dass ein Produkt bereits mit einem nationalen oder internationalen Preis ausgezeichnet wurde. Insgesamt können 2007 maximal 20 Wettbewerbsbeiträge mit dem Designpreis in Silber und maximal 5 Beiträge mit dem Designpreis in Gold ausgezeichnet werden. Der Katalog stellt zum einen ausführlich die Preisträger sowie ca. 200 weitere nominierte Produkte vor. Eingeführt wird die Publikation mit einem Grußwort des Bundeswirtschaftsministers.

The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is the main tool used by the Federal Ministry of Economics to promote design. It is organized by the German Design Council and spotlights products whose design is outstanding. In order to be nominated, a product must already have received another national or international award. No more than twenty entries may receive the Silver Design Award, and not more than five may receive the Gold. The catalogue offers detailed presentations of the prizewinners as well as accounts of some two hundred other nominated products.
