This volume presents premodern phenomena of norm and deviation as dynamic negotiations of the aesthetic and aesthetic negotiations. Although every formulation of a norm aims at general validity, there is also a plurality of norms, whose claims to validity are reflected upon in diverse practices and put up for discussion again and again.
