Abstract

This chapter examines the making of Peter Heylyn as a Laudian polemicist, suggesting that he belongs to the Laudians who went through an earlier Calvinist phase. There is little early sign of the preoccupations of his Laudian writings and there is no Laudian equivalent of a puritan conversion experience. The chapter also discusses Heylyn's family background, his ideological position from 1621 to 1625, and his directions and career opportunities from 1627 to 1632.
