Published/Copyright: July 28, 2010

Abstract

At room temperature, tris(1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium) bishexachlorobismuthat(3-) dihydrate, [C12H14N2]3[BiCl6]2 · 2H2O, crystallizes in the triclinic space group Ci1; P[unk]; (No. 2) with a = 797.0(2) pm, b = 1215.8(2) pm, c = 1303.9(3) pm, α = 88.76(1)°, β = 83.01(1)°, γ = 73.86(1)°, Z = 1, Dx = 1.977 g/cm3. The cell contains three [C12H14N2]2+ cations (methyl viologen), two slightly distorted BiCl6 octahedra ([unk]Bi–Cl = 269.4(2) pm) and two water molecules.
