Abstract

The concluding third part of the edition of correspondence between Pusey and Tholuck further clarifies what was already presented. The themes of parts 1 and 2 were the origin of the “Enquiry into theology” and Pusey's report “On the present state of theology in England.” Part 3 now documents Pucey's turn from the common standpoint of “mediating orthodoxy” to Anglo-catholic theology of the Oxford Movement. The importance of the correspondence for the history of theology lies in the fact that Pucey's biographical development was of major significance for the theological profile of the Church of England as well as its ecumenical relationships to Protestant churches on the continent.
