Abstract

The article provides a first edition and German translation of a sermon about the Apostles’ Creed contained in a ninth-century manuscript. The text was probably composed in Tours sometime between 650 and 825 CE. Additionally, the essay discusses the sources of the sermon, the exact wording of its underlying creed, origin and date, the genre and the Sitz im Leben of the manuscript, certain linguistic peculiarities of the text, and its theological content. Finally, several questions regarding its catechetical Sitz im Leben are raised.
