Efforts to make the knowledge that has been acquired in the reception of post- and decolonial theories fruitful for theological contemplation are worthwhile: theologians from the Global South provide important impulses for theological reflection and deconstruction, in particular as self-critique. When churches and theology critically call into question power asymmetries or racism, it becomes even more urgent to inquire into their own practices.

So is universal basic income a problematic utopia, a socio-politically justifiable instrument or even a morally welcome demand?

The major churches are important actors in civil society: even where membership numbers are in decline and societal plurality is on the rise, the contribution made by the church to social cohesion remains central in both town and country. This poses of the question of how the church in flux contributes and can continue to contribute to the different manifestations of social cohesion in urban and rural contexts.

Within a global political context, it is clear that culture is one of the fundamental elements in efforts to promote sustainable development. What kinds of new perspectives are opened up for social and ethical expertise by incorporating a cultural dimension into sustainability discourse and what guiding contributions can contemporary Christian theological theory make to the interdisciplinary debate?

The concept of intertheology includes the idea that forward-looking cooperation between theologies is plausible, particularly in light of the thesis that, in the history of Judaism, Christianities, and Islam, key theological ideas and concepts have always emerged intertheologically – that is, in creative, complex, and sometimes conflict-laden processes of interaction, appropriation, and differentiation.
