About this book

We have only just begun to manipulate human beings with technology. We are able to change people through genetic technology, operations, and chemical compounds. Should we eliminate our illnesses through genetic intervention? Should we also improve our “normal” properties and form humanity anew – people with infrared vision, people with a higher intelligence, or even chimeras, that is a mixes of human and animal. A lot of this is clearly still science fiction, but we already need to decide whether to take memory pills and mood-enhancing drugs. How would a world full of improved people look?
This book wants to evaluate “enhancement,” i.e. the attempt to improve normal properties of healthy people through intervention is their bodies.

Reviews

"Overall, this affordable book offers to the interested and educated newcomer into the field of enhancement an introductory overview on some key ethical issues. Experts in this field of research are provided with a philosophical argumentation in favour of a liberal position presented in contrast to sketches of bio-conservative's criticisms of enhancement procedures."
Jens Clausen in: Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy 3/2008

Christoph Lüthy in: Neue Zürcher Zeitung 04.09.2008
