About this book

This study sets out to examine the challenging task of describing and interpreting the present. To this end, it analyzes how contemporaries understood and interpreted the present in Northern Italy during the 10th century, a period marked by political and social change, by the recrudescence of debates from late antiquity about the present time, and the rediscovery of “writing the present” as a response to societal uncertainty.
