Über dieses Buch

Looks closely at the mental health concerns of Black men in higher education and offers valuable resources and tools for addressing them.

This volume assembles a diverse range of scholars, administrators, counselors, and other mental health professionals to discuss the needs of Black college men with mental health concerns. For some Black men, discussing mental health remains taboo. Black College Men's Mental Health Matters aims to remove the stigma and empower Black men to engage supports and services to promote their overall wellness. In ten original essays, contributors identify the various mental health challenges facing Black men in college and graduate school, show the complex ways students navigate them, and provide strategies for those working with Black men to enable their holistic development. Topics and themes include racial battle fatigue, depression, and the adverse impact of austerity and other policies, as well as the benefits of trauma-informed pedagogy and Black Male Initiatives on college campuses.

Rezensionen

"Until and unless administrators, staff, and faculty behave differently, Black men's mental health will remain highly susceptible to unnecessary and consequential attacks. Black male collegians deserve better. They deserve wellness. They deserve affirmation. They deserve institutional responsibility. They deserve to be whole." — From the foreword by Shaun Harper
