About this book

These twenty-three essays, presented by students, colleagues, and friends to Thomas A. Brady, Jr., the Sather Emeritus Professor of History at the University of California at Berkeley, explore the historiographies of the Reformation from the fifteenth century to the present and study the social and cultural history of religion from the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries, especially in Germany but also in Switzerland, the Netherlands, and colonial Mexico.

His most recent publications include Biblical Poetics before Humanism and Reformation (Cambridge, 2002) and Church Robbers and Reformers in Germany, 1525-1547 (Brill, 2006).
Michael Printy, Ph.D. (2002) in History, University of California, Berkeley, is visiting assistant professor of History and Letters at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
Peter Starenko, Ph.D. (2003) in European History, University of California, Berkeley, is a research associate at Williams College in Williamstown, MA.
Peter G. Wallace, Ph.D. (1983) in History, University of Oregon, is professor of History at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. His publications include Communities and Conflict in Early Modern Colmar: 1575-1730 (Humanities/Brill 1995) and The Long European Reformation (Palgrave 2004).
