Die Zeitschrift »PLAN«

Die von Otto Basil herausgegebene Zeitschrift »PLAN« (1945–1948) war ein wichtiges Forum, das mit T.S. Eliot, Bertolt Brecht oder Boris Pasternak nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wieder moderne Literatur aus dem Ausland veröffentlichte und jüngeren österreichischen Autor*innen wie Ilse Aichinger, Milo Dor, Hans Lebert und Friederike Mayröcker erste Publikationsmöglichkeiten bot. Der vorliegende Band zeigt, wie literarische und essayistische Texte von einer frühen Vergangenheitsbewältigung geprägt waren und analysiert das Zusammenspiel von politischem Identitätsdiskurs, individuellem und kollektivem Gedächtnis im personellen Umfeld der Zeitschrift sowie in ausgewählten Beiträgen.

The present thesis deals with the question how the Austrian discourse on identity shaped individual and collective memory in the postwar period. The analysis focusses on the Austrian literary and cultural journal “Plan” that was published by Otto Basil from 1945 to 1948. The author asks how attributions to Austrian identity as well as the assumption that Austria was a victim in the Second World War formed the discourse on identity in Austria. Furthermore, she shows how the discourse on identity became manifest in the political context and the consequences this had in the realm of literature and in the literary scene.
