This study examines the relationship between German and Latin in Sebastian Brant’s use of language (1457–1521). It begins by comparing German and Latin versions of Brant’s Donnerstein leaflet and Somnia and Traum pamphlets from the perspectives of linguistics and literary and cultural studies. This is followed by an analysis of Brant’s use of participial phrases in German and Latin prose and verse texts.
