The Hohenfurter Liederbuch has long been overlooked in research on late medieval poetry. With its uniquely preserved sacred songs in German, it attests to the devotional efforts of the Late Middle Ages, which are the focus of this study. The volume examines the role of the guardian figure and the warning voice in sacred songs, placing special emphasis on the songs about the “great sinner” in the second part of the manuscript.
