About this book

Together with Aristotle, Theophrastus of Eresos (ca. 371–287 BCE) worked on an extensive program of scholarship. While Aristotle mainly concentrated on zoology, Theophrastus studied botany, of which he is considered to be the founder. His Botany (Historia plantarum), which comprises nine books, is a fundamental text of biology, which is explored here in a bilingual edition with a plain-language commentary.
