Topics
Parallel to the completely new edition of volume II, Syntax, volume I is being presented in a carefully revised seventeenth edition, many aspects of which have been further developed. It sticks with its proven concept, but continues to incorporate and expand upon more recent gloss research. One important new feature is that the Old Saxon and Middle High German equivalents are presented alongside the Old High German paradigms.
Sub-volume II of Old High German Grammar consults suitable sources in order to present the basic structures of the syntax of the oldest precursor to German, from case, and nominal and verbal word groups to complex sentences. It applies a method that is theory-neutral, working with the categories and terminology of traditional grammar.
