Bildbetrachtung in Bewegung

This study examines exhibitions at the Paris Royal Academy of Art to analyze how 18^th century norms for public viewing of art were established and ultimately questioned. For the first time, using a critical source study, it details the transformation in the idea of viewership from one of a passive, admiring spectator to one of a creatively co-creating art observed who is physically and emotionally moved.
