In Think Bigger, Sheena S. Iyengar—an acclaimed author and expert in the science of choice—provides essential tools to spark creative thinking and help us make our most meaningful choices. She draws from recent advances in neuro- and cognitive sciences to give readers a set of practical steps for coming up with powerful new ideas.

Author / Editor information

Sheena S. Iyengar is the S. T. Lee Professor of Business in the Management Department at Columbia Business School and the best-selling author of The Art of Choosing (2010). She is a leading expert on the study of innovation, choice, leadership, and creativity and regularly consults with a range of organizations on methods for innovation.

Reviews

Iyengar is merciless about some of the myths plaguing creativity. She debunks the concept of supposedly creative 'right brain' and analytical 'left brain' thinking, dismisses 'brainstorming' sessions as 'idea diarrhea' and warns innovators to stay on track…. Her illustrations, from the pre-refrigeration quest for cheaper ice cream to the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, are entertaining, but this is above all an intensely practical guide.”

Iyengar inspires the creative problem solver in all of us.

Sir Alex Halliday, director, The Earth Institute, and founding dean, The Columbia Climate School:
This superb book makes our collective future so much brighter. It’s a shining ray of hope for those who want to take their ideas and see them grow, or seek to be more imaginative and unafraid to have a go at something new that could make a big difference. We dearly need this entrepreneurial and innovative attitude to tackling many of society’s biggest issues right now.

Marc Lore, serial entrepreneur and co-owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx:
I’ve long believed in the concept of chasing ‘moonshots’ – pursuing ideas that have a low probability of success with a massive upside. Sheena’s concept of “thinking bigger” falls right in line with that same methodology. This book offers great advice for entrepreneurs, and really any business leader, hoping to think and lead in a more effective way.

Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft:
Sheena Iyengar gives us a well-researched approach to help entrepreneurs and innovators think bigger for greater impact.

Barry Salzberg, retired CEO, Deloitte LLP:
The Holy Grail of large organizations is how to innovate. Sheena Iyengar has found it…

Kai-Fu Lee, chairman, Sinovation Ventures and author of AI Superpowers and AI 2041:
Innovation everywhere, in all domains of human activity, throughout all time – Think Bigger explains them all.

Indra Nooyi, former CEO and Chair, PepsiCo:
Simply brilliant… at last, a method to take us to the frontier of new ideas, and beyond.

Danny Meyer, Founder, Union Square Hospitality Group:
As a recipe for innovation… I give it five stars.

Scott Willoughby, vice president, James Webb Space Telescope program at Northrop Grumman:
Reach for the stars… but how exactly do you do that? Sheena Iyengar provides a framework. An incredibly insightful work.
