Abstract

Technoscience is a hugely powerful tool. It provides knowledge about the world in a manner that is reliable and robust, and offers insights that are, to many, thrilling, awe-inducing, and endlessly fascinating. But we should not ignore the ways in which it is and has been implicated in maintaining oppression and inequality, nor those in which it has caused harm. If we are to think about its place in contemporary societies, and to consider how it is shaped by and in turn shapes those societies, then it is vital to engage with how it is implicated in power relations and questions of justice and (in)equity.
