One The sociologist as voyeur
Abstract
Liza Schuster reflects on the emotional labour involved in conducting ethnographies among vulnerable populations. She notes that the data do not speak for themselves, so that there is an obligation to provide sociological analyses. Citing Stan Cohen and John Solomos, she suggests that academic analyses and activism can go together and the politics in which any sociological issue is embedded should not be forgotten.
