The Influence of Microstructure on the Mechanical Properties of a Spinodally Decomposed Cu–Ni–Fe Alloy

Abstract
The influence of the spinodal decomposition in a Cu–Ni–Fe alloy on the microstructure and on the mechanical behaviour has been investigated by TEM and hardness measurements as well as by measurements of the yield strength. A correlation between the early stages of decomposition, defined by TEM investigations, and the yield strength has been found. By means of a model, based on thermal activation, the amount of hardness can be predicted for different times and temperatures.
Abstract
Der Einfluβ der spinodalen Entmischung auf die Mikrostruktur und das mechanische Verhalten einer Cu–Ni–Fe–Legierung wurde mittels TEM, Härtemessungen und Messungen der Flieβspannung untersucht. Dabei konnte eine Korrelation zwischen den frühen Stadien der Entmischung, die mittels TEM-Untersuchungen definiert wurden, und der Flieβspannung gefunden werden. Mittels eines einfachen Modells, das auf thermischer Aktivierung beruht, läβt sich die zeitliche Entwicklung der Härtezunahme fur alle Temperaturen recht gut vorhersagen.
