Published/Copyright: July 28, 2010

Abstract

The enolic form of dibenzoylmethane, C15H12O2, crystallizes orthorhombic (space group Pbca, Z = 8; a = 8.749(2) Å, b = 10.840(1) Å, c = 24.427(1) Å, R = 0.065 for 1758 hkl [I ≥ 2σ(I)]). The carbonyl groups may be considered coplanar with the corresponding phenyl groups to some approximation; the dihedral angles (O1, C1, C10, C2) Λ (C10, C11, C12, C13, C14, C15) and (O2, C3, C4, C2) Λ (C4, C5, C6, C7, C8, C9) are 2.0(1)° and 17.5(1)°, respectively.
