Abstract

Single crystals of TlCu(OH)SO4 and TlCu(OH)SeO4 were prepared under hydrothermal conditions. The isotypic structures were solved by direct method strategy and Fourier summations, using single crystal X-ray data up to sinθ/λ = 0.8 Å−1 [space group P21/m (No. 11); a = 8.854(2) Å, 9.041(6) Å; b = 5.888(1) Å, 5.959(3) Å; c = 4.493(1) Å, 4.584(2) Å; β = 95.29(3)°, 94.26(2)°; Z = 2; Rw = 0.052, 0.043 for 924, 952 reflections].

The copper atoms are [4 + 2]-coordinated, the thallium atoms have an irregular seven-coordination. The anion tetrahedra are somewhat distorted with mean X – O bond lengths of 1.476 Å and 1.646 Å, respectively. The structure can be considered to be built from chains of edge-sharing CuO6 polyhedra, linked by the XO4 tetrahedra to form sheets//(100).
