Crystal structure of [(bis(glycinato) copper(II)dibromide)((bis(glycine) dilithium(I)) dihydrate)]

Abstract

The title complex [(C2H4NO2)2CuBr2(C2H5NO2)2Li2 · 2H2O] crystallizes in a monoclinic unit cell of dimensions a = 9.011(1), b = 5.061(1), c = 20.659(3) Å, β = 91.54(5)°, and space group P21/n, Z = 2. The density is dcalc = 1.99 g cm−3, dexp = 2.10 g cm−3. The intensity data were collected using a CAD-4 diffractometer with CuKα radiation. The crystal structure of this complex has been solved by Patterson syntheses and difference Fourier calculations and refined to an R-value of 0.041 using 1425 reflections. Copper is coordinated to two carboxyl oxygens, two amino nitrogens and two bromines all of which form a distorted octahedron. The lithium ion is coordinated to two carboxyl oxygens. Glycine molecules exist both as zwitterions (NH3+CH2COO−) and anions (NH2CH2COO−) in this structure.
