Abstract

For three examples, two ways are discussed how to derive hc notations in case of complex structures. The description of the polytypes of a polytypic substance as sequences of fractions of some basic structures is considered as the most characteristic feature of the hc notation. TiSi2-type compounds, CdI2-type structures and micas are described as examples, for which generalized hc notations are possible. In these examples the number of basic polytypes is greater than 2.
