Abstract

An automatically recording x-ray method utilizing the geometric simplicity of the front-reflection flat plate Laue is described. The method is especially useful for studying premonitory effects and the kinetics of first-order phase transformations as it enables distortions in the morphological cell to be followed by direct observation of changes in the primary reflections. It should provide a useful means of crystallochemieal analysis as it will enable determination of the pressure–temperature relationships of structures known at ambient temperature.
