Abstract

The 23 Demotic Ostraca of the Third Part of Theben-Ost III all come from the Theban area. They have some peculiarities: In No. 47, 48, 51, 55, 56 one finds percents; No. 48, 51, 52, 53, 54 are syntaxis receipts of the temple; No. 49 notes the bakshish [of the temple scribe]; No. 57 is a letter receipt of tax-free land of Djême; No. 58, 58A are two fragmentary early Roman land leases of temple land, noting the “one aroura for the Pharao”; No. 50 Recto and Verso contains a temple receipt, starting with “Copy of the income” (Xt pA iw). The receipts for labour (r.rx=w) No. 59, 60, 64 from Western Thebes, and No. 62 from Eastern Thebes, are issued by the state, No. 61 by the temple. The difficult No. 63 may be an abbreviated r.rx=w Text. No. 65, 66, 67 show a rare receipt type i.ir.ir-iw, issued by the state (?). The very fragmentary oil seed notes No. 68 presents i.a. a list of Eastern Theban land names.
