Abstract
This article critically evaluates the meanings of “within Judaism” and related phrases when applied to the texts now collected in the New Testament. It uses social-scientific approaches to social categories and group boundaries to develop a theoretically informed approach for considering how the literature of the earliest Christ followers may or may not be considered Jewish texts, and how such claims can be evaluated. Examples from New Testament and Early Jewish texts illustrate the theoretical discussion throughout.

Dieser Artikel befasst sich mit der Bedeutung der Wendung „within Judaism“ sowie verwandter Ausdrücke, sofern sie auf die im NT zusammengestellten Texte angewandt werden. Sozialwissenschaftliche Ansätze zu sozialen Kategorien und Gruppengrenzen werden herangezogen, um einen theoretisch fundierten Ansatz für die Fragestellung zu entwickeln, ob und wie die Literatur der frühesten Christusnachfolger als jüdische Texte betrachtet werden kann und wie solche Einordnungen bewertet werden können. Die theoretische Diskussion wird durchgehend mit Beispieltexten aus dem Neuen Testament und frühjüdischen Texten veranschaulicht.
