Accessibility, transport infrastructure and regional development - a case study of Thuringia. The presented study examines the question whether in the restructuring of the Eastgerman economy the existing infrastructure has positively influenced regional economic development. Overall the example of Thuringia has shown that proximity to the south-western cores of agglomeration rather than motorway access is most important for economic development. Nevertheless, motorways accelerate the process of adaptation and productivity. In structurally strong regions, they can positively influence numerous regional economic indicators. In structurally weak areas the problems of the labour market may even be worsened.
