Summary

The publication of a coffin recently uncovered after a looting, most presumably at Abusir el-Meleq, provides an opportunity to bring together a group of coffins with similar iconographic, textual and palaeographic characteristics that appear to have been produced by the same workshop. Stylistic analysis of the decorative programme on these coffins suggests that they date from the late 4th or 3rd century BC. The publication of this coffin and the comparisons with other coffins which can be attributed to the same necropolis and/or workshop add to our still very fragmentary knowledge of the evolution of decorative programmes on coffins from northern Middle Egyptian necropolises.
