With the publication of the first issue of the Photonics & Lasers in Medicine’s fifth volume, the editors-in-chief would like to express their thanks to all who have contributed to the journal, in particular the authors, issue editors, editorial board members and reviewers. Furthermore we are very grateful to those who have supported us in our work and encouraged us in our quest to create an international forum for the publication of latest research in the field of laser medicine and biophotonics.

On this occasion, we would like to renew our invitation for contributed manuscript submissions in addition to the special topics listed hereinafter. Photonics & Lasers in Medicine has a very broad and comprehensive scope. The thematic spectrum ranges from laser optical diagnostics to thermal, non-linear therapeutic procedures and applications, optical methods including light emitting diodes (LEDs), intense pulsed light (IPL), and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), and last, but by no means least, clinical basic research for both human and veterinary medicine. Photonics & Lasers in Medicine gives authors the opportunity to publish late stage pre-clinical studies, and perhaps more importantly, those in-vitro, ex-vivo and early-stage clinical studies which often do not find a place in clinical journals or in technologically-oriented laser/biophotonics journals, but offer the prospect of future translation in practice.

Upcoming special issues

Every issue of Photonics & Lasers in Medicine has a special topic edited by one or two issue guest editors who have expert knowledge in that particular field. This unique format, which is not found in any of the other medical laser journals, enables Photonics & Lasers in Medicine to cover a wide range of topics in medical laser applications and biophotonics and to demonstrate the presence of even uncommon indications and applications as well as to include new research group entries into the scientific work.

For the upcoming issues in 2016, we want to encourage authors to consider submission of original research contributions, review articles, preliminary research reports, case studies, short communications or technical notes especially on the following topics:

  • From optical bioimaging to clinical biophotonics

    Submission deadline: January 4, 2016

  • Vascular lesions

    Submission deadline: April 4, 2016

  • LASER Past and future: Highlights

    Submission deadline: July 7, 2016

Manuscripts in the English language are welcome and should be submitted via our electronic submission system at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/plm. More information and “Instructions for Authors” are available at http://www.degruyter.com/plm.

We are looking forward a wide range of submissions!

With our very best regards,

Dr. F. Frank            Dr. L. Lilge       Dr. C.M. Philipp     Dr. R. Sroka
