Abstract

Electric Vehicle (EV) standardisation is a highly multi-disciplinary topic being embedded in a rapidly changing, competitive and complex global environment where interoperability of the different sub-systems is important. Here, technology standards serve as enablers of innovation but seem to be driven by other key factors rather than by interoperability. Particularly in a Sino-European context where standardization and IP strategies as well as approaches to EV standardization differ vastly, standards became a significant factor in the creation and shaping of markets. Thus, this paper attempts to provide a bigger picture of EV standardization in the Sino-European context exploring the key factors affecting the development of technical standards and the standardization management of European automotive companies.
