Introduction

The Flow Chemistry Society organises their 4th European Conference with the aim to unite and represent those who are actively working on this rapidly developing field. The Society is dedicated to the integration of Flow Chemistry into everyday practice, by delivering the latest knowledge and making it available for the entire chemistry community.

Conference topics and theme

The Conference and associated Vendor Exhibition, cover the latest technological advances and associated services within the field. Focusing on nine different topics which make up the 2 day agenda. These are:

  • Catalysis

  • Combination of Microwave Technology and Flow Synthesis

  • Flow Photochemistry and Electrochemistry

  • Material Synthesis in Flow

  • Meso Flow Chemistry

  • Microfluidic Chemistry

  • Novel Processing Windows

  • Process Analysis and Control

  • Production Scale Application

There will be keynote presentations, complimenting these topics, from Paul Watts, Professor & Research Chair in Microfluidic Bio/Chemical Processing at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and from Volker Hessel, Professor, Eindhoven University of Technology. Our other distinguished faculty include:

  • Christian Stevens, Professor, Ghent University

  • Igor Plazl, Associate Professor, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology

  • Floris Rutjes, Professor, Radboud University Nijmegen

  • Saif Khan, Assistant Professor, National University of Singapore

  • Simon Kuhn, Lecturer in Chemical Engineering, University College London

  • Stephan Scholl, Professor, Technical University of Braunschweig

  • Timothy Noel, Assistant Professor, Eindhoven University of Technology

  • Thomas Junkers, Professor, Hasselt University

  • Mimi Hii, Reader, Imperial College

  • Bernd Nidetzky, Head of Human and Biotechnology, Graz University

  • David Cantillo, PostDoc, Graz University

  • Polona Žnidaršič- Plazl, Associate Professor, University of Ljubljana

Venue

The conference takes place at the elegant Fira Palace, which is located in the heart of Montjuic, one of the most cultural areas of Barcelona. Situated between the famous Plaza de España, Gran Via Avenue and the new shopping and entertainment centre “Arenas De Barcelona”, the hotel blends expert service to provide guests with a memorable stay.

Not only is Barcelona packed with numerous World Heritage Sites, from the Parc Güell to the Casa Batlló, there are lots of interesting things to do in this cosmopolitan port city. If you enjoy museums, everything from modern to classic is at hand. Barcelona nightlife also has everything to offer from Flamenco to theatre to world-class cuisine.

Getting around is easy on Barcelona′s metro system. Best of all February is an excellent time to visit the city; you can expect little rain and lots of sun when you venture outside so you are sure to find something to do that will make your visit to Barcelona a comprehensive learning and cultural trip.
