Abstract

A new species of oribatid mites of the subgenus Neoribates (Neoribates) (Oribatida: Parakalummidae), Neoribates (Neoribates) peruensis Ermilov sp. n., is described from soil and leaf litter in forests of Peru and Ecuador. This species differs from N. (Neoribates) fulvusSellnick, 1923 by the smaller body size and the presence of prodorsal longitudinal ridge and straight anterior margin of notogaster. An identification key to the Neotropical species of Neoribates (Neoribates) is presented.
