EOS Topical Meeting on Diffractive Optics returns to Poland in May 2014
Diffractive optics is employed for numerous purposes, not only in industry, but also in consumer products. Examples of such applications range from metrology to diffractive lenses in photography, and from lithography to DVD players. Hence it is not surprising that within the last 20 years, the field of diffractive optics has become very attractive for both scientists and engineers. EOS has been actively involved in the development of the field.
The first EOS Topical Meeting on Diffractive Optics was organized in 1997 in Savonlinna, Finland. Following meetings in Jena (1999), Budapest (2001), Oxford (2003), Warsaw (2005), Barcelona (2007), Koli (2010), and Delft (2012), the 9th meeting in this popular series on diffractive optics will take place in Gdansk, Poland, in May 6–9, 2014. This topical meeting will be chaired by Zbigniew Jaroszewicz (Institute of Applied Optics and National Institute of Telecommunications, Warsaw) and Jani Tervo (Institute of Photonics, University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu).
The topics of the meeting include numerous areas dealing with diffraction and interference, ranging from traditional diffractive optics to plasmonics and metamaterials for instance. Other examples include novel materials, nanostructures, beam shaping, polarization, scattering, adaptive optics, diffractive optics for life sciences and sensing, inverse problems on diffractive optics, fabrication and characterization, as well as measurements and inspection.
Outstanding invited and keynote speakers have confirmed their participation, including Webster Cash, Juan Liu, Gladys Minguez-Vega, Leonid Doskolovich, Piotr Wróbel, Kenneth Weible, and Zeev Zalevsky. The topics of their invited talks range from customized laser modes to resonance gratings, and from plasmon polaritons to super-resolution in ophthalmology.
We invite you to participate in state-of-the-art diffractive optics in beautiful Gdansk, the Amber City, and to enjoy the Baltic atmosphere in the Maritime Museum of Gdansk, the heart of Diffractive Optics 2014.

Gdansk is an old harbor town on the Baltic Sea with a rich history. Almost completely destroyed in World War II, its main parts were sympathetically reconstructed to its previous glory.
