Abstract

1. Introduction

Gesture, a quintessential component of semiotic research, is the subject of the most recent book by David McNeill, Professor emeritus of linguistics and psychology at the University of Chicago. McNeill has distinguished himself in gestural research throughout his illustrious academic career. His basic scientific inquiry into this area has provided us with significant insights (McNeill 1992, 2000).
