Die im Grundstudium erworbenen mathematischen Kenntnisse reichen im wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Hauptstudium der Betriebs- und Volkswirtschaftslehre mit einer stärkeren quantitativen Ausrichtung bei weitem nicht aus, so z.B. nicht in der Ökonometrie, im Operations Research und insbesondere bei der Optimierung oder bei der Analyse dynamischer Systeme in der Mikro- und Makroökonomie. Hier ist ein nennenswertes "Mehr" an Mathematik gefordert. Von Studierenden der Wirtschaftswissenschaft wird in steigendem Maße eine bessere mathematische Ausbildung verlangt, um die komplexen Strukturen ökonomischer Prozesse adäquat beschreiben und analysieren zu können. Hierfür wurde dieses Werk geschrieben.
