About this book
After 1945, the Bavarian Ministry of Education was facing a twofold challenge: the school system had to be freed of any references to Nazi ideology and aligned with democratic values. At the same time, the Ministry itself was undergoing extensive changes in the postwar decades. In this study, Felix Lieb shows how ambivalent the relationship between democracy, Bavarian tradition, and attempts to deal with the Nazi past was.
