About this book

Bioanalytical chemistry plays a central role in many fields, from healthcare to food and environmental control. This book aims to provide graduate students and young researchers with the interdisciplinary knowledge necessary to understand the principles and application of contemporary bioanalytical methodologies, especially those which focus on methods based on molecular recognition and nanobiosensing. This second edition has been expanded to include the most recent advances in molecular biosensing, including those developed to answer the urgent need for rapid and reliable analytical tools for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduces general concepts of molecular recognition in bioanalytical chemistry.

Gives an overview of the core techniques and examines their strengths and weaknesses.

Discusses innovative methods in bioanalysis and nano-biosensors.

Introduces advanced methods (LAMP, RPA, CRISPR, DNA sequencing), novel instrumental techniques and the use of nanomaterials and synthetic receptors in bioanalytical chemistry.

Author / Editor information

Paolo Ugo, former Professor of Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, is presently collaborating as Honorary Senior Researcher with Ca’ Foscari University Venice. He authored over 160 articles on electrochemistry, biosensors and environmental analysis.

Pietro Marafini is Director, R&D at CS Genetics (Cambridge, UK), leading a range of R&D activities. He previously worked at Illumina and, since his DPhil at the University of Oxford, has been focusing on nucleic acid chemistry and biophysical techniques.

Marta Meneghello is Associate Professor in Chemistry at the University of Perpignan (France). Since her PhD at the University of Southampton (UK), she has been working on enzyme immobilisation, electrochemical biosensors and biofuel cells.
