About this book
Spanking – whether it should be allowed in school has been a controversial issue since the 19th century. But it was not until around 1970 that corporal punishment was made illegal and deemed socially illegitimate in Germany. The contrast between long continuity of debate and recent very rapid change is examined in this study. To this end, it analyzes public and professional discourses, legal changes, and everyday school life.
