Die zuletzt in zweiter Auflage im Jahre 1910 erschienene »Altsächsische Grammatik« von Johan Hendrik Gallée ist bis heute das materialreichste Handbuch zur Laut- und Flexionslehre des Altsächsischen geblieben, das außer dem appellativischen Wortmaterial auch in großem Umfang Personen- und Ortsnamen berücksichtigt. Das wichtige Standardwerk wird hier in einem reprografischen Nachdruck wieder zugänglich gemacht. Dabei sind das umfängliche Druckfehlerverzeichnis, das der zweiten Auflage beigegeben ist, und eine Anzahl sonstiger Korrekturen in den Text eingearbeitet worden. Ferner wurde das von Johannes Lochner erstellte Wörterverzeichnis kritisch durchgesehen. Auf die seit der zweiten Auflage publizierten Textausgaben und auf Untersuchungen zur Grammatik des Altsächsischen macht ein Literaturnachtrag aufmerksam.
