Author / Editor information

Adolf Erman (1854–1937) gehörte zu den Gründungsvätern der deutschen Ägyptologie. Er war Universitätsprofessor und langjähriger Direktor des Ägyptischen Museums in Berlin. Vor allem beschäftigte er sich intensiv mit der Hieroglyphenschrift und initiierte ein bedeutendes „Wörterbuch der ägyptischen Sprache“, das ab 1926 in 12 Bänden erschien.

Jan Assmann lehrt seit 1976 als Professor für Ägyptologie, derzeit in Heidelberg. Zu seinen Arbeitsschwerpunkten gehören Publikationen zu thebanischen Beamtengräbern sowie Religion, Geschichte und Literatur des Alten Ägypten. Darüber hinaus publiziert Assmann als Kulturwissenschaftler zu übergreifenden Themen, etwa zum kulturellen Gedächtnis oder zu Herrschaft und Heil.
