About this book

Numerous autobiographical texts by East German authors since 1989 do not just tell of individual pasts – they also reveal generation-specific patterns of narrating and interpreting what has been experienced, claiming social relevance for the identities that are constructed in literature. Autobiography thus functions as a medium of interpretation and reflection, and also as a space of intra- and inter-generational communication.
