About this book
At the end of the 19th and start of the 20th century, Jewish artists thought intensively about the influence of their heritage on their work and the notion of “Jewish art.” Using the examples of Max Liebermann and Marc Chagall, representatives of Western and Eastern European Judaism, respectively, and the ways art historians responded to their work, this study examines for the first time the concept of “Jewish art.”
